Merkins Jam #1- I am the Highway

Back in 1982, Dan Cunningham Donny Speer and myself started jamming Maiden/Priest/Def Lep covers together in the front room of the Cunningham's house. Dan had a mismatched kit, Donny loved to borrow Dan's brother Jeff's Black/white strat and I had to borrow my buddy Dave Culberhouse's practice amp just to be heard. We were called On Parole (after the Motorhead song of the same name) and cut cut our teeth on the early metal/hard rock tunes of that time. Enlisting the Souza brothers John and Steve into their 1st band(s) (and later Dave Foster on guitar), we wrote original music and started playing the local clubs.
Fast forward to 2015 as Dublin High Class of 85 is set to celebrate our 30 year reunion, our classmate and friend Scott Lunger is gunned down on duty. To honor our brother we all reconvene back at the Cunningham house (Dan's Mother had just recently passed, as well) to jam in the same room and play in their tribute for our community. As many of our classmates come over to jam/rehearse on so many classic rock songs, we all feel something connect and bond. 33 years later in the same room with the same Dudes. It was special.
It was no-brainer for us to continue to get together over the past 6 years and play our favorite cover songs with so many close friends joining us. It is without a doubt, THE most fun I've ever had playing live music.
Our Dublin Community is something unique. I have never seen the "Circling of the Wagons" mentality anywhere as it is here. I am SO proud to have you all as friends, bandmates and Partners in Crime.
That all being said, with all the Collab-A-Jams that I've done over the past year, it was WAY past due to get the Merkins on the board. All 6 performers are DHS '85 Grads except for Jay, '87.

Firstly where can I get that Randy T-shirt. This is my all time favourite piece of music that they created which is so apt for our times brilliant lyrics. Mother please teach 'the' children for me and not 'your' subtle but important difference. Loved this heart felt recreation of it. Such a shame Randy never knew the full impact of what his music had on us over the all these years. What a phenomenon hecwas and what a shocking waste that chain of events led to.
